Tomorrow’s Forest Communities

Tomorrow’s Forest Foundation announces the grants programme Tomorrow’s Forest Communities. The programme will run between 2022 and 2031, within the limits of the Foundation’s financial resources. Free competition, effective use of resources, transparency and equal treatment are ensured. The programme is implemented in Romania and abides by Romanian and European legislation.

The Tomorrow’s Forest Communities programme aims for the sustainable development of forest-dependent communities in Romania, including responsible forestry and forest management. The main objectives of the programme are:

  • promoting responsible management of forests, of protected areas and biodiversity in forested areas;
  • supporting a progress in the quality of life in forest communities;
  • growing awareness, respect and love of nature and forests by education of citizens of all ages;
  • providing equal chances for development in forest communities.
  • support for implementing technologies with reduced CO2 emissions.

Budget and grants

  • The total budget of the programme is 300,000 Euros for the year 2022. 
  • Grants: between 3,000 and 30,000 Euros;
  • Co-financing is not mandatory, but it will receive extra points.

Who can apply

  • Forest owners and administrators, and associations thereof.
    Territorial Units who own forests/forested areas;
    Environmental NGOs, active in sustainable forestry, conservation and protection;
    Social NGOs, operators of social enterprises, cooperatives;
    Educational institutions (kindergartens, schools, universities) and research institutions in forestry.

Target groups

  • Citizens in forest communities;
  • Forest owners and administrators;
  • Local authorities and institutions;
  • NGOs and social partners active in sustainable forestry, nature conservation and protection;
  • Children, students, other community groups.

Priority areas for grants will be determined for each yearly cycle, and must target the specific objectives of the programme. Additional examples of eligible activities and expenses are provided in the official Application Guide [Romanian, .pdf].

Increasing Forested Areas

Increasing the total areas of forest (by planting, reforestation, etc.) in the vicinity of forest communities.

Decarbonation

Implementing technologies for reducing the carbon footprint of organisations active in the forestry sector.

The assessment of the proposals will be performed with help from professional and independent experts, in conformity to the programme strategy and code of conduct published below.
