It was a weekend with sunshine, good cheer and a lot of energy at Poienarii Burchii, in Prahova County! The Tomorrow’s Forest Foundation, together with twenty-five heartfelt volunteers and with the support of the local community, planted 5,000 seedlings on a hectare of land near the Ialomița River.

The area was until recently occupied by brush – an invasive species that suffocated the local vegetation. So, we decided to give it a fresh start and chose to plant Pennsylvania ash, a tree perfectly adapted to this type of soil and the climatic conditions in the area. It grows quickly, it is resistant and helps to strengthen the riverbanks.

We have started the transformation of this degraded land, overwhelmed by invasive species, into a forested area. We use a species adapted to extreme climatic conditions, to offer the best possible chances of survival to young seedlings,” explained Adrian Toma, coordinator of the reforestation programme.

A day to be framed

The volunteers mobilised fantastically – in just a few hours, the entire area was planted! We brought the tools, gloves and seedlings, and the participants came with a good mood and a lot of enthusiasm. It was that kind of day when one feels like they’re doing something really good and important.

The event was organised with the support of Brink’s Cash Solutions and is part of the Tomorrow’s Forest Foundation’s efforts to bring the forest closer to communities and bring degraded land back to life.

Each seedling planted is a promise for a greener future. And each of those present here today has contributed to this promise. It was a day when we saw again how beautifully people bond with each other when they have a common goal. We are grateful for the work, energy and soul brought by all the volunteers,” said Mihail Caradaică, executive director of the Foundation.

A warm thanks for the help to our friends from Famyly Forest SRL. The event would not have been possible without the support of our partners at Brink’s Romania .
